MANSFIELD, Ohio — One Madison High School student is in custody today after allegedly assaulting the school's principal during an altercation.
According to a police report from the Richland County Sheriff's office, the principal had responded to complaints from the student's teacher claiming that the teenager was acting violently.
Upon the principal's arrival in the classroom, the student tried to leave, which the principal attempted to block.
According to the report, that is when the 16-year-old began punching the principal in the face, hitting him at least 10 times with a closed fist.
The principal was able to eventually restrain the student before deputies arrived.
Officers report that when they arrived on the scene, the principal was noted to have a black eye and according to witnesses, had sustained multiple injuries to the head and face.
The teen was still reportedly acting violently while being taken away from school property and was heard threatening police officers throughout the booking process.
The student is currently at the Richland County Juvenile Detention Center, where he will remain until a prosecutor reviews the case and issues a warrant.
