Non-teaching Medina elementary school staff member resigns after suspected of working under the influence of alcohol

The staff member was a non-teaching employee and not responsible for the supervision or care of any students, according to Northrop Elementary School.

MEDINA, Ohio — A staff member at Medina's Northrop Elementary School has resigned after being placed on administrative leave for working while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Northrop Elementary says the incident happened on Friday, May 3. The staff member was a non-teaching employee and not responsible for the supervision or care of any students, according to the school. They emphasized in their media release that the staff member was not in contact with any students while in the building.

School administration immediately placed the staff member on administrative leave after an investigation. Following being placed on leave, the staff member resigned from his position.

"The safety and security of our students and staff are paramount. We continue to enforce strict policies and procedures to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff. Thank you for your support as we continue to investigate the situation and maintain a safe and positive environment for our learners and educators," said Medina City Schools Superintendent Aaron Sable.
