SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A man wanted for an alleged aggravated robbery with a weapon by the Bayonne, New Jersey Police Department was found and arrested in Northeast Ohio.
27-year-old Gustavo Monteiro was taken into custody at a gas station near the 13100 block of Larchmere Boulevard in Shaker Heights on Thursday morning.
When Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force officials found Monteiro, they took a loaded handgun with an extended magazine.
According to the Bayonne Police, in Nov. 2021, Monteiro allegedly stole a purse from a 64-year-old woman and dragged her with a stolen vehicle. The woman fell and hit her head on the road.
Recently, in Aug. 2022, investigators learned that Monteiro left New Jersey and was potentially hiding in Northeast Ohio.
“Violent criminals are not welcome in northern Ohio," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. "We will do everything in our power to continue to keep our streets safe and arrest dangerous fugitives like this.”
He is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail until he is extradited to New Jersey.
