CLEVELAND — January is National Mentoring Month, and on Thursday Cleveland honored two “Mentors of the Year” during College Now’s annual MentorInCLE Connect luncheon and career fair.
Volunteers Elaine Byrd and Margie Glick were saluted by their mentees and by 350 guests attending the luncheon, held at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland.
Present at the event were more than 100 professionals who have volunteered to help College Now’s scholarship recipients navigate the college experience and complete their degrees.
Last year when Cleveland became a Say Yes to Education city, the pressing need to find mentors became a citywide priority. More than 1,000 volunteers signed up in 2019 to mentor the first class of Say Yes scholarship recipients, and more will be needed in 2020 to be matched with this year’s graduates.
Tune in to WKYC on January 27 for our all-day “Mentor Monday” coverage. We’ll explain more about how you can make a difference for a college-bound Cleveland student.
