FirstEnergy and Ohio Edison employees are teaming up Wednesday to plant more than 500 trees at the Rittman Nature Preserve.

Employee volunteers from both companies will gather from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Rittman Nature Preserve to plant approximately 530 trees, according to a press release.

"A mixed variety of trees will be planted throughout the new 210-acre nature preserve, which is situated on land where a vacant industrial business once stood," FirstEnergy officials said in a press release.

Since April, FirstEnergy officials say they have donated and planted more than 10,000 trees across its six-state service territory.

"This initiative is an important part of the company's efforts to reduce FirstEnergy's carbon footprint, promote responsible use of natural resources and further the advancement of sustainable practices," according to the press release.

The Rittman Nature Preserve is located at 85 Morning Star Drive in Rittman.
