BRIMFIELD, Ohio — A Portage County grand jury has indicted two people who are accused of being involved in a chase with Brimfield police last weekend with an 11-year-old child inside the car.

Court records show 44-year-old Michael Frampton of Brimfield was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer as well as endangering children. Both charges are third-degree felonies.

In addition, 40-year-old Cheryl Hershberger of Kent was indicted for obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony.

The pair are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Oct. 21 in Portage County Common Pleas Court.

CASE DETAILS

According to a post on the department's Facebook page, Brimfield Police Capt. Christopher Adkins said the incident began at around 9 p.m. on Oct. 13 when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Edson Road for an undisclosed traffic violation.

The driver allegedly failed to stop, leading police on a pursuit on Edson and Meloy before entering residential neighborhoods.

“Then, the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving a second adult and an 11-year-old child in the vehicle,” according to Adkins. “With the assistance of the Kent Police K-9 unit, officers tracked the suspect to the rear door of a house on Perie Wood Lane in Brimfield.”

After obtaining a search warrant, Adkins says officers searched the residence and took the driver into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.
