RAVENNA, Ohio — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly crash that occurred early Friday morning on I-76 in Edinburg Township, which is just east of Rootstown.
Around 2:25 a.m. Friday, troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on I-76 near state Route 14. When troopers arrived, they found a 2016 Kenworth tractor with a double trailer had been traveling westbound in the right lane. The driver of the truck saw a vehicle on fire on the north shoulder of the freeway and changed lanes. The truck driver continued westbound in the left lane when authorities say he struck two pedestrians that were in the roadway.
The pedestrians have been identified as 50-year-old Yusuf A. Evans of Akron and 29-year-old Tyran Williams-Clark of Barberton. Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams-Clark was transported to University Hospitals for life-threatening injuries. Troopers say it's believed the two men were associated with the vehicle that was on on the north side of the freeway.
I-76 was closed for approximately three and a half hours while there was an active scene and investigation.
