STREETSBORO, Ohio — Police say one driver is dead and another injured following a head-on crash involving two Honda Accords in Streetsboro.
According to a release from the Streetsboro Police Department, the incident happened on State Route 43 just south of Kennedy Road on Thursday at approximately 6:20 a.m. When police arrived, they found "two severely damaged Honda Accords blocking both lanes of SR 43."
After a preliminary investigation, police believe that the driver of a red 2019 Honda Accord heading northbound crashed head-on into a black 2010 Honda Accord that was moving southbound. They add that the at-fault driver in the red Accord "was illegally passing slower moving cars on a double yellow line while approaching the crest of a hill."
Police say the victim in the case, a 63-year-old man from Kent who was in the black Accord, was taken by ambulance to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead due to injuries from the crash. The driver in the red Accord, a 33-year-old man, was taken to Summa Health Akron with "significant injuries," according to Streetsboro police.
"In this case, the law broken was passing on a double yellow line. The real cause of this crash appears to be impatience and stands as a strong word of warning to motorists that their actions have deadly consequences to innocent victims," wrote Streetsboro Police Chief Tricia Wain.
