Stark County teenager killed in Washington Township crash

Police have not named the juvenile killed in the accident.

STARK COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a Saturday evening crash in Stark County that took the life of a teen. 

According to officials, the crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. when a 2011 Kia Optima-- driven by a juvenile-- was traveling east on Beech Street in Washington Township at a high speed.

Witnesses told police that the the Kia Optima was passing vehicles in a non-passing zone until the vehicle crashed on Beech Street near Colony Drive. Officials say the car drove off the road on the north side of the street and struck a stop sign and a turn, overturning and ejecting the juvenile. 

The Alliance teenager succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Drugs and alchohol are not considered to be factors in the accident. 

The crash remains under investigation.
