Stark County officials are investigating a two-car crash that claimed the lives of four people Thursday evening.

According to the sheriff's office, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on State Route 153 just east of Maplegrove Street in Nimishillen Township. Police first received a call at 4:57 p.m. and arrived on the scene 10 minutes later to find two cars damaged on the side of the road.

Investigators determined that the driver of a black 2018 Infiniti Q45 was driving at a high rate of speed going westbound on State Route 153.  The driver lost control of his vehicle going left of center where he hit a 2014 silver Ford Escape that was travelling eastbound on State Route 153.

Both vehicles came to a stop on the south side of the road, and four people were pronounced dead at the scene.
