Ohio State Highway Patrol: Man dead after crashing motorized bicycle into trailer

Ronald Hashman, 50, of Canton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — A man is dead after crashing his motorized bicycle into a pick-up truck pulling a trailer.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 30 at Pekin Avenue in Canton Township. Ronald Hashman, 50, of Canton, was traveling northbound on Pekin Avenue on a motorized bicycle when he crashed into a trailer being hauled by a Chevy Silverado.

An initial investigation revealed that Hashman failed to yield at a stop sign just before impact. Hashman was transported to Aultman Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet or any other protective gear at the time of the crash.

Valente Delaroza. 23, of East Palestine, was driving the Chevy at the time of the crash. He was not injured in the crash.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office said drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash at this time. U.S. Route 30 was closed for about one hour immediately after the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
