Metroparks officials add that "one victim was located on scene" and transported to an area hospital for treatment and later released. Cleveland EMS told 3News that an 18-year-old victim was in serious condition on Saturday evening.

The shooting remains under investigation.

"The safety of Cleveland Metroparks guests and staff is a top priority. Guests will see a heightened presence by Cleveland Metroparks Police at Edgewater Park. Additionally, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and City of Cleveland Police Department will provide law enforcement support as necessary," Cleveland Metroparks added in its release.

Police received calls about dozens of shots fired just after 9 p.m. on Saturday.

One witness who did not feel comfortable going on camera told 3News she thought the sound was fireworks. While she's shaken up, she's thankful her family is okay.

The violence at Edgewater led 3News to ask Cleveland city officials if they are increasing security for next week's Fourth of July celebrations. Fireworks will be set off on the Fourth as part of downtown's annual "Light Up The Lake" festival.

The city responded, in part, "We are encouraged to learn of the heightened presence they (police) will provide in that area ... Unfortunately, law enforcement presence is not a fail-safe."
