D'Lawrence Scott of Barberton was sentenced after murdering 15-year-old Jerry Davis in May 2022.

Scott, who will be eligible for parole after serving 21 years of his sentence, was found guilty on Feb. 6 on the following charges:

  • Two Counts of Murder with Gun Specifications – Special Felonies
  • Improper Discharging a Firearm at a Habitation with a Gun Specification – a Felony of the 2nd Degree
  • Felonious Assault with a Gun Specification – a Felony of the 2nd Degree

According to police and prosecutors, Scott was involved in an argument with his pregnant girlfriend during the late afternoon of May 24 and hit her in the face. Davis, the woman's brother, attempted to intervene when Scott's father Lawrence arrived to pick up Scott and Scott's two children, but after he put his kids in the car, Scott grabbed a gun and shot Davis in the chest.

The teen victim died later that day, while father and son Scott fled the area. U.S. Marshals captured them two days later in Cleveland.

On Feb. 16, D'Lawrence Scott’s father, 57-year-old Lawrence Scott, pled guilty to two counts of Obstructing Justice and was sentenced to two years of probation.
