CLEVELAND — An Akron man was sentenced to at least two decades in prison for impersonating a rideshare driver to kidnap and rape women, the Summit County Prosecutor announced Wednesday.

Mohamed Reeda, 25, sentenced to 20-to-24 years of prison by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison Breaux. Reeda was found guilty of one count of rape, three counts of kidnapping and a count of attempted rape in February.

Prosecutors say Reeda posed as a rideshare driver and offered rides to women before taking them to secluded areas where he raped one woman and attempted to rape another.

“I am incredibly proud of these brave women who came forward to testify against Mr. Reeda," Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said. "My hope is this sentence provides justice to them and helps keep Summit County safe."

Reeda was originally charged with committing multiple rapes from November 2020 to March 2023.

As part of Reeda's sentence, he was designated a Tier III sex offender and will be on Ohio's violent offender for 10 years. After he is released from prison, Reeda will be required to register with the local sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.
