EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — An unidentified man is in custody after a car chase involving police ended in a fiery crash Tuesday night on Cleveland’s east side.
At approximately 11:00 p.m. officers responded to a call of shots fired. They were able to locate a vehicle, occupied by two males, fitting the description after speaking to multiple residents in the area. When the officers activated their lights and sirens, the suspected vehicle fled the scene.
The vehicle continued to Shaw Avenue and East 133rd where it struck a streetlight pole. It continued from East 133rd to Mann Avenue where the vehicle struck a guardrail. The passenger was able to safely exit without incident or injury.
The suspect then continued onto East 114th where he struck another vehicle causing him to crash into a utility pole and his vehicle to burst into flames. The suspect exited his vehicle and continued to flee on foot where shortly after he was apprehended by officers
According to police both the suspect and driver of the uninvolved vehicle were taken to University Hospitals for minor injuries.
