NORTON, Ohio — Norton Middle School will be closed on Friday, November 12, due to "health concerns" in the building.
According to Norton City Schools' COVID-19 tracking tool, there are currently 40 confirmed cases of coronavirus at Norton Middle School. 32 of 66 of the district's current student cases come from the middle school alone; more than half of the active cases among district staff come from the middle school, also.
The school district's website says that Norton High School, Norton Elementary, and Norton Primary will all be open Friday.
Norton School's Superintendent Dana Addis released the following statement to 3News Friday afternoon:
"Our middle school has worked extremely hard all week to safely educate our students, but the building has reached a tipping point with staff absences due to illness. We felt it was in the best interest for the building to take a 72-hour break in an effort to get healthy."
This is a developing story. Check back with 3News for updates as they become available.
