RICHFIELD, Ohio — A Richfield Police officer was injured Friday during a struggle with a woman who allegedly lit herself on fire.
After a Richfield police officer learned of a woman "in crisis," the officer stopped her white vehicle on I-271 near the State Route 303 exit in Summit County at around 9:30 p.m. to help her.
Upon being pulled over, a woman came out of the vehicle and poured flammable liquid on herself.
Moments after, during a "struggle" with the police officer, the woman lit herself on fire with a lighter. The officer responding immediately put out the flames.
Richfield EMS transported the victim and responding officer to an area hospital due to burn-related injuries.
The police officer injured in the incident has been released, and the victim remains in the hospital.
An investigation of the situation is ongoing at this time.
