Investigation reveals woman falsely reported attack at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, reveals injuries were self-inflicted

Officials noted that the woman's report was inaccurate and that no other individuals were involved in the previously reported incident.

NORTON, Ohio — 3News has learned that the woman who claimed she was injured after two men allegedly "threw an unknown substance" on her at the Chippewa Trail at Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton has admitted that her injuries were self-inflicted.

Officials say that following a joint investigation involving the Summit Metro Parks ranger department, Norton Police Department and the State Fire Marshall’s office, it has been determined that the alleged attack on Sunday, July 28, was falsely reported. 

Officials noted that her report was inaccurate and that no other individuals were involved in the previously reported incident. 

"We understand that this incident has caused significant fear for our park visitors," said a spokesperson for Summit Metro Parks. "We hope that the conclusion and outcome of this case will reassure those who were wary of visiting the trails, as there is no public threat resulting from this false claim. We hope through this unfortunate circumstance the person involved receives the care and support she needs.
