SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating after one of their sergeants was injured during a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Saturday.
According to a release, at 2:20 a.m., a sergeant responded to a disabled vehicle on I-77 in Coventry Township. The vehicle was stopped in the right lane within a construction zone, where there apparently was no place to pull off the road.
The sergeant was out of her patrol car when she noticed a vehicle approaching the scene at a high rate of speed. Believing she was about to be struck, the sergeant jumped between the disabled vehicle and her patrol vehicle, injuring her ankle. She was taken by ambulance to Summa Health System for treatment.
There is no description of the vehicle that failed to change lanes. Sheriff's deputies say it continued to travel south on I-77.
The incident remains under investigation. If you have any information about the vehicle that failed to move over, please contact the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Patrol at 330 643-2147.
