SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A Summit County Sheriff’s Deputy was hurt during an alleged assault Friday.
The incident happened when the deputy responded to Coventry Township amid reports of a woman in the roadway.
When the deputy arrived at the scene, he reportedly found a 21-year-old Cleveland woman laying in the road. After authorities say the woman indicated she wanted to harm herself, the deputy took her to Akron City Hospital for evaluation.
“The female became combative after she arrived at the hospital,” according to a press release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Department. “During the intake process, she struck the deputy in the face.”
The woman was subsequently charged with assault on a peace officer. Authorities have not released the woman's name.
No additional details were immediately available.
