LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — Students in the Willoughby-Eastlake School District and the Kenston City School District will be out of virtual classes on Monday following storms and high-winds on Sunday.
The weather issues caused problems for thousands of Northeast Ohioans, with First Energy Corporation reporting more than 100,000 homes without power on Sunday night.
Willoughby-Eastlake School District made the call around 10 p.m., tweeting that virtual classes have been cancelled for Monday, November 16. The school, which currently has some students learning in-person, did not specify whether or not the cancellation also applied to the on-campus students.
Kenston City Schools called the cancellations for power outages within the area, but also citing "road closures" as a reason to close schools on Monday.
Superintendent of Mayfield Schools, Keith Kelly, announced that Mayfield Middle School and Cuyahoga East Vocational Educational Consortium are also out of session.
"Mayfield Middle School and the CEVEC program are closed November 16 due to power outages. All other buildings are open at this time. Please check for messages in the morning pertaining to additional closures," Kelly wrote on Twitter.
This is a developing story and will be updated as other school districts make calls.
