62-year-old woman in custody after running over construction worker in Summit County

The man was transported to Akron General for life-threatening injuries.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — A woman is in custody Wednesday after allegedly running over a construction worker with her car in Coventry Township.

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred around 6 a.m. in the 1000 block of Robinson Avenue.

Just before the crash, a construction crew was setting up a work-zone in the eastbound lane of Robinson Avenue, police report. The Summit County Sheriff's Department says that the eastbound lane was blocked by a vehicle to advise drivers to avoid the work-zone.

A 52-year-old construction worker from Euclid was directing traffic in the westbound lane when a 62-year-old female driver heading westbound struck the worker. The worker was transported to Akron General for life-threatening injuries, including severe head trauma. 

At this time, drugs, alcohol, and speed are not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit Metro Crash Response Team.
