Emily Explores the Land: Taking time for self-care

Self-care is so important, especially with how hectic our lives are right now.

CLEVELAND — It seems as though everyone is always on the go and stressed out, and the pandemic has only added to that stress. That's why it's so important to make sure you take time out for yourself. 3News Special Correspondent Emily Mayfield recently visited two places that will help you get your anxiety under control, and help you feel relaxed.

First up, an acupuncture session at Great Lakes Health and Wellness. Dr. Chester Dickinson has been practicing acupuncture for 14 years and uses the ear to target pain relief, as well as to ease anxiety. He says, using the ear as the medium for treatment leads to faster, longer-lasting results, including an immediate reduction in pain.

So does acupuncture hurt? No, says Dr. Dickinson. He says you feel a small prick that goes away by the time your brain realizes what's going on.

Acupuncture is a cumulative treatment -- the more often you have it, the less you need it. Many patients start out going every six weeks, which turns into every two months, and so on.

Dr. Dickinson's specialties are in managing pain and helping with depression and anxiety, as well as addiction therapy. He says one can expect to feel immediately relaxed and sleep very well that night after treatment.

Acupuncture sessions for new patients at Great Lakes Health and Wellness cost about $120 for a 45-minute session, including consultation and treatment. Call the numbers below to book at either location.

Emily also visited Raw Esthetics in Lakewood for a treatment called dynamic cupping. It targets deep-tissue pain relief, treatment for sports injuries, and more.

Dynamic cupping is a lot like its cousin stationary cupping. The difference is that some of the cups are moved around the skin, much like a massage. You can expect to feel relaxed and also experience pain relief from just one session, with results extending out several weeks from the date of treatment.

A dynamic cupping session at Raw Esthetics runs about $100 for a 60-minute session. Click on the link above or call (440) 941-7360 to book.

No matter what you choose -- acupuncture, dynamic cupping, or even something like a facial or manicure, make sure you take time to take care of yourself.
