CLEVELAND — Thursday was a big day for us here at 3News as we opened our doors to over 150 students from the Lebron James Family Foundation (LJFF) for their annual field trip.
The sixth graders got to interact with Hollie Strano and Danielle Wiggins and watched them as they taped, “It’s About You” with guests from the Great Lakes Science Center and the Akron Zoo, who brought a parrot to the studio.
There was a surprise during "It's About You" involving the LJFF as well.
Jill Penrose, Chief People and Administrative Officer from the J.M. Smucker company, joined Hollie and Danielle and made a wonderful announcement: Smucker's will donate $1 million to the LeBron James Family Foundation for the construction of the 'HomeTown Hall' facility at the I PROMISE School.
"We all know how important physical education, playing, and having fun is in childrens' lives," Penrose said on 'It's About You.' "That facility will bring some of that to life. But it's about more than just a gymnasium or a physical space. It's about community and belonging."
On Facebook, the LeBron James Family Foundation wrote, "Smucker's has allowed our students & our families to thrive in ways we never dreamed possible. Now, our HomeTown Hall will become an incredible, state-of-the-art gathering space for them to gather as we continue to help them along their journeys."
