AVON, Ohio — The Lake Erie Crushers minor league baseball team has a new ownership group led by a familiar name for Northeast Ohio sports fans.
On Thursday, the Avon-based independent franchise announced that an investor group led by Len Komoroski — the former CEO of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group, and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse — has agreed to acquire the team from Tom and Jacqueline Kramig, who have owned the Crushers since 2015.
Komoroski will serve as the chairman of the team, with investor, entrepreneur and Howley Foundation Chairman Nick Howley taking the role as vice chairman. Other investors include Mike Howley, Nic Barlage, Mike Levy, and Vic Gregovits, who will become the president of the Crushers and oversee all business and baseball areas of the organization. Gregovits most recently served as executive vice president of global sales for the Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Co. in Canton.
"This group is committed to investing in this team and ballpark, which we see as an incredible source of year-round entertainment and an important community asset with immense untapped potential," Komoroski said in a statement. "Working alongside [Avon] Mayor [Bryan] Jensen, and all of our community and civic partners, we look forward to creating a vibrant and inclusive environment where families, friends, and fans can come together to enjoy not just baseball, but a wide range of events and activities throughout the year."
The Kramigs posted a message to fans on the team's social media accounts. "The Crushers are a wonderful community asset for Cleveland's Westside, and they will continue to grow and prosper with your support," the pair said.
The Kramig family purchased the Crushers from previous owner I. Steven Edelman, who launched the franchise in 2009. The Crushers went on to win the Frontier League championship in their inaugural season.
