CLEVELAND — Play ball!
The Villa Angela-St. Joseph baseball team is excited for the season after COVID struck them out last year.
“I’m always excited about baseball. I’ve been coaching this game a long time," said Dennis Woods, head coach for the boys varsity baseball team.
He says he’s been coaching 53 years, which is a passion he uses to motivate his players like Zac Tizzano into being the best no matter the circumstances.
“My freshman year was my first year with coach Woods and just super grateful to have him," Tizzano said. "He really turned everything around."
Vikings pitcher Ty Howard said pivoting during the pandemic really strengthened their team making it top priority to give it all they had when the season started back up.
“Every position on the team is very important, they do their own job," coach Howard said. "Being the pitcher is like being the captain of the team -- but so is the catcher. Baseball brings everyone together."
A team sport that only works when everyone is in sync just like the Guardians!
“I want my seniors to be leaders and set the tone," coach Woods said.
