CLEVELAND — Just five days before the Cleveland Guardians open the home portion of their 2024 season at Progressive Field, the team has announced a new deal with Progressive Insurance to extend the naming rights of the ballpark through 2036.
The ballpark, opened in 1994 as Jacobs Field, has been known as Progressive Field since 2008.
"We are thrilled to ensure the name Progressive Field remains through at least the 2036 season,” said Cleveland Guardians President of Business Brian Barren in a statement. “As we continue to upgrade and reimagine our ballpark, continuing our partnership with Progressive gives our fans a consistent ballpark name with a worldwide brand, who is also a pillar of the Northeast Ohio community.”
According to a release from the Guardians, the new agreement "would automatically be extended at the end of the term through the 2041 baseball season should the ballpark lease be extended through that period."
In 2022, the Guardians and the city of Cleveland reached a deal to extend the ballpark's lease through 2036, with the potential for an additional 10 years after that. The public-private partnership is expected to generate $435 million in funds over the lifetime of the deal.
The extension of the naming rights at Progressive Field comes as the ballpark continues to undergo renovations. While all the work is not expected to be completed until opening day 2025, you'll see several changes this year, including new Progressive Field signage at the home plate entrance on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
As part of the deal, Progressive will continue to be the official insurance provider of the Cleveland Guardians.
“In 2008, we became the proud naming rights partner of Cleveland baseball and for the last 16 years Progressive Field has been part of the fabric of the Cleveland community hosting some of the most unforgettable moments in franchise history,” added Tricia Griffith, CEO of Mayfield-based Progressive. “Progressive Insurance and the Guardians proudly call Cleveland home, and this agreement symbolizes our collective commitment to each other, the fans of the franchise, and the Northeast Ohio community. We look forward to being a part of many more memories at the ballpark in the years to come.”
