CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — It's hard to find a more dedicated fan than Peter Knab.
In his 20s, he's already thrown out the first pitch at a Guardians playoff game, and last season he went to 129 of their games. The team even flew him to New York for the American League Division Series.
"This organization, in many ways, has been part of the most memorable days of my life," Knab said.
Which is why he wasn't satisfied with 129, and he's already on his way to making all 162 regular season games — both home and away — in 2023 season. From the end of March to the beginning of October, he's embarking on this journey with a message about people like himself who use wheelchairs or have cerebral palsy.
"Changing that perception of not being able to be active and not being active participants in society is a huge thing for me," he told 3News.
Knab's journey began this past week, when he journeyed with the Guards on their opening seven-game road trip in Seattle and Oakland. He adds he's not doing this challenge because it's easy.
"The grind of 162 games is like nothing else in professional sports," he said, "so I'm really looking forward to being on this journey with the team."
He is also doing it with confidence — confidence that his team will win close to 100 games this season. While he wouldn't give me his exact predictions, he did say this.
"This Cleveland team shows that their brand of baseball can be very successful," Knab said of the defending AL Central champs. "I think this team has a chance to do something really, really special in 2023, and I can't wait to be along for the ride."
Of course, Knab will be at Progressive Field Friday afternoon for the Guardians' home opener against the Seattle Mariners. Fellow superfan John Adams will be honored pregame roughly four months after his death, and Knab says the famous drummer will be "watching over" him throughout this season.
