Cleveland Indians parody 'Cast Away' as wait for baseball continues

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the Cleveland Indians poked fun at the toll that waiting for the start of baseball has taken on them.

With the coronavirus (COVID-19) forcing many into self-quarantine, many have compared their current states of self-isolation to Tom Hanks' character in "Cast Away."

That comparison, apparently, also applies to the Cleveland Indians, who are still awaiting the start of the 2020 season.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the Indians did their best to convey their current emotions, parodying one of the most famous scenes from the 2000 film. But instead of a volleyball, it was an Indians branded baseball that the team turned into its own personal version of "Wilson" -- the blood-stained ball that Hanks' character created for companionship while stuck on an island.

Nearly two weeks after Opening Day was originally scheduled to take place, the start of the 2020 MLB campaign remains on indefinite hold. In a call with the United States' major sports commissioners on Saturday, President Donald Trump reportedly said he expects sports to return with fans in the stands in August.
