CLEVELAND — Kevin Love continues to get recognition for his commitment to mental health awareness.
On Wednesday, The Cleveland Cavaliers forward was named a finalist for ESPN's Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award.
The Award is given to an athlete who has made a positive impact in their community through sports and has demonstrated leadership skills that reflect the core principles that Muhammad Ali embodied.
Love is being recognized for his dedication to normalizing the conversation around mental health.
In 2018, Love opened up publicly about his battles with mental health and anxiety, which he said even resulted in a panic attack during a game.
With the NBA season having been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus, the 5-time All-Star has been at the forefront of the league's response, donating $100,000 to the arena staff at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse who find themselves missing paychecks due to the absence of games and events.
Other finalists for the Humanitarian Award include: Nelson Cruz (Minnesota Twins) Devin and Jason McCourty (New England Patriots), Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx) and Titus O’Neil (WWE Superstar).
The winner of the Muhammad Ali Sports Humanitarian Award will be announced on June 21st during The 2020 ESPY Awards.
