PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Stark County native Karlee Pireu had a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds and was one of six different players to score in double figures as Ashland pounded Lake Erie 94-64 Wednesday night in its first game since achieving the No. 1 ranking in Division II women's basketball.
The game was billed as a mismatch and lived up to the hype, with AU (16-1, 11-0 G-MAC) racing out to an 8-0 lead and never trailing once in their 13th straight win. Besides Pireu, Macy Spielman scored 19 points, North Canton's Annie Roshak had 16, and three other players off the bench had at least 10.
Lainey Billing had 14 points to lead Lake Erie (1-19, 0-14), which shot 55% from the field but turned the ball over 27 times. The Storm have lost 16 in a row dating back to late November.
Ashland will look to maintain its top ranking Saturday afternoon in Pepper Pike against Ursuline, while Lake Erie will be at Tiffin around the same time.
