CLEVELAND — Eastlake North product Destiny Leo had a game-high 18 points as Cleveland State defeated Northern Kentucky 59-51 in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.
The fourth-seeded Vikings (20-7) raced out to an 18-6 first-quarter lead and led by as many as 19 before the Norse made things somewhat respectable late. Isabelle Gradwell and Gabriella Smith each added 11 points for the Vikings.
Kennedy Igo led NKU (21-8) with 12 points and Garrettsville native Grayson Rose hauled in 10 rebounds. The Norse shot just 31% from the field in their third loss to the Vikes this season.
Cleveland State will get three days off before taking on No. 3 seed Green Bay in Monday afternoon's semifinals. From here, the tourney will move to Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.
