Ben Axelrod's Week 6 NFL picks: Panthers beat Bears, Cowboys upset Cardinals

WKYC's Ben Axelrod makes his picks against the spread for every game in Week 6 of the 2020 NFL season.

CLEVELAND — "It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile" - Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) in The Fast and the Furious

With a 7-6 record in Week 5, I turned in my second consecutive winning week -- and more importantly, my fourth straight non-losing week -- bringing my total for the season to 39-36-1. Let's keep the non-losing rolling with my Week 6 picks:

Carolina Panthers (-1.5) vs. Chicago Bears

Pick: Panthers -1.5

Between Teddy Two Gloves, Robby Anderson, D.J. Moore and Draft Kings legend Mike Davis, I'm all in on this Panthers team that I initially thought was rebuilding. Don't let me down now.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+3) vs. Detroit Lions

Pick: Lions -3

Many people expected me to take the Jaguars here, based on the likelihood I haven't seen enough from the Lions to justify picking them as a road favorite. But those people must have forgotten that I've held firm in my belief that the Jaguars are tanking since Day 1.

Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) vs. Atlanta Falcons

Pick: Falcons +3.5

Atlanta gets the post-head coach firing bump in the same week that Mike Zimmer finds himself questioned for a polarizing play-call in primetime. Give me the Falcons and the points.

Tennessee Titans (-3) vs. Houston Texans

Pick: Texans (+3)

The Titans are coming off a short week and still have a roster that's been hampered by COVID-19. Meanwhile, 73-year-old Romeo Crennel has helped restore my faith in Deshaun Watson as an underdog.

New York Giants (-3) vs. Washington Football Team

Pick: Giants -3

As last week showed, Washington's offensive issues aren't limited to Dwayne Haskins. My only fear here is Chase Young taking advantage of a turnover-prone Daniel Jones.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-3) vs. Cleveland Browns

Pick: Steelers -3

I believe in the Browns, but winning in Pittsburgh will be no small feat. This feels like the kind of game where Cleveland will need Baker Mayfield to be more than just a game manager.

Philadelphia Eagles (+7.5) vs. Baltimore Ravens

Pick: Eagles +7.5

I wonder how different this line might look had Philadelphia not blown last week's game to Pittsburgh. If nothing else, the Eagles are more talented than their 1-2-1 record might suggest.

Indianapolis Colts (-7.5) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Pick: Bengals +7.5

The Colts defense is banged up and their offense lacks true firepower. If last week's loss to the Ravens didn't break Joe Burrow, I like the Bengals to at least keep this one close.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1) vs. Green Bay Packers

Pick: Packers -1

I don't know if Tom Brady is washed, but I know that Aaron Rodgers isn't. Give me a rested Green Bay team with Davante Adams likely back in its lineup.

San Francisco 49ers (+3) vs. Los Angeles Rams

Pick: 49ers +3

I'm not ready to write off the 49ers just because they got blown out by the Dolphins last week. Kyle Shanahan plus the points at home in a division game feels like it makes too much sense.

Miami Dolphins (-9.5) vs. New York Jets

Pick: Jets +9.5

For as much of a disaster as the Jets have been, is anyone really ready to pick the Dolphins by nearly 10 points yet? I'm not.

New England Patriots (-9.5) vs. Denver Broncos

Pick: Patriots -9.5

Assuming Cam Newton is at full strength, this feels like a statement game for Bill Belichick. Plus, "I'll take Drew Lock and the points" feels like a pretty weak justification.

Dallas Cowboys (+2) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Pick: Cowboys +2

There's obviously a drop off going from Dak Prescott to Andy Dalton, but not so much of one that the Cardinals should be favored here. Does anybody else remember how Arizona looked before beating up on a bad Jets team last week?

Buffalo Bills (+3.5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Pick: Chiefs -3.5

In a battle between two teams in a bounce-back spot, I'll take the best quarterback in the league to cover by less than a touchdown.
