CLEVELAND — The Browns put forth a stellar defensive performance on Sunday afternoon in defeating the Chicago Bears 26-6 at home. The biggest story of the day was defensive end Myles Garrett breaking the franchise single-game sack record with 4.5 sacks, but he wasn’t alone amongst bright spots on the defense.
Another player that had a spectacular day was rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. And Owusu-Koramoah is a nominee for the NFL’s Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week thanks to his play.
Against the Bears, the rookie out of Notre Dame finished with four tackles, a pair of passes defensed, a tackle for loss, and a half-sack (that he combined with Garrett on). Owusu-Koramoah did this in just 23 snaps (51% of the defensive snaps the Browns played) on Sunday. While his performance may earn him the rookie of the week honors depending on the voting, he was the highest-graded linebacker this week according to Pro Football Focus, grading out with a 93.9 for his efforts.
So far this season, Owusu-Koramoah has played in all three games, starting against Kansas City and Chicago. He’s totaled 10 tackles, with one of them coming for a loss, to go along with a half-sack and three passes defensed.
