Shortly after the Cleveland Browns unveiled their new uniforms on Wednesday, executive vice president and owner J.W. Johnson discussed the team's new look.
"We want brown and orange to be who we are," Johnson told the team's in-house radio show, Cleveland Browns Daily of the new threads, which mark a return to a more classic, traditional style.
But while the Browns' new uniforms were largely met with praise from fans and critics alike, there was one question many found themselves asking: Where are the orange pants?
While orange pants haven't always been a part of the team's uniform combination, they have been one of the Browns' more popular styles -- particularly during the Kardiac Kids era of the early-1980s. But while Wednesday's unveiling only showed white and brown pant combinations, Johnson hinted that it may not be long until a third color is added to the mix.
“Did people like the orange pants?’ I didn’t realize that. I didn’t know that that was something that was a big deal. Aw man, I guess we missed on that one," Johnson said, seemingly sarcastically.
“I know orange pants have been part of the Kardiac Kids and a lot of tradition. But I don’t know, we’ll see. We’ll have to just stay tuned and see what happens there. So if we can find a way to talk Nike into getting us some orange pants, we’ll get to work on that. We’ll see what we can do.’’
While Johnson's comments seem to hint that orange pants are already in the works, it remains to be seen whether or not they'll be ready in time for the start of the 2020 season or will be something that's added further down the road. But even with fans already looking for improvements, Johnson remains confident in the in the Browns new/old look, which he described as "clean, classic, iconic."
"We got it right this time," he said. "We're not making any changes anytime soon."
