CLEVELAND — As the Cleveland Browns prepare for this Sunday's AFC North contest against the Baltimore Ravens, we know who will start at quarterback.
On Wednesday, Browns' Head Coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Jameis Winston will start. The announcement comes after Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the team's Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Stefanski also announced that he will turn playcalling duties over to offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Since joining Cleveland in 2020, Stefanski has called the plays for the team.
Winston will be making his first start since 2022, when he was with New Orleans. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft, it will be Winston's 81st career start in the NFL.
The 30-year-old Florida State University product appeared in Sunday's game against the Bengals after backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson injured his finger on his throwing hand.
In his 10-year NFL career, Winston has thrown for 22,187 yards and 142 touchdowns, with a 61.1% completion rate.
The Browns signed Winston to a 1-year, $8.7 million contract as a free agent in March after cycling through five quarterbacks last season.
Following last week's injuries to the QB room, the Browns also signed Bailey Zapee from the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad.
Stefanski noted on Wednesday that he wants to see how Thompson-Robinson does in practice before deciding who will serve as backup quarterback for Sunday.
The Browns also announced that guard Wyatt Teller has been designated to return to practice. The three-time Pro Bowl selection was previously placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25.
