Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield proud of wife, Emily, for ‘testing herself’ by joining WKYC Studios

Emily Mayfield will report on trends, life and wellness throughout the fall and holiday seasons.

BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is used to being in front of the camera, but earlier this week, that spotlight was turned to his wife, Emily, as she was introduced as a special correspondent for the WKYC 3News team.

Following Wednesday’s practice, Mayfield held his weekly press conference and in the final moments of the session, the second-year quarterback expressed how proud of his wife he was for stepping out of her comfort zone.

“She hates being live on camera, so she’s kind of testing herself,” Mayfield said. “It’s good for her. It challenges her, but I’m waiting, waiting in the shadows. You know what? They’ll clip it if she messes up.”

When asked about his feelings and thoughts about the Emily “joining the media,” he was quick to make a joke at the expense of veteran Browns reporter Tony Grossi of TheLandOnDemand.com.

“She’s not a part of the media now,” Mayfield said with a wry smile and a head shake before walking away from the podium. “She will never be what you are, Tony.”

All kidding aside, Mayfield is proud of his wife for taking on this challenge.

Mayfield will report on trends, life and wellness for 3News, and her reports will air on “Lunch Break with Jay Crawford” at 12 p.m., the “Front Row” at 7 p.m. and across the station’s digital platforms this fall and throughout the holiday season.

“We are thrilled to welcome Emily to the 3News family,” WKYC Studios president and general manager Micki Byrnes said in announcing the addition of Mayfield to the team.

“Emily’s passion for Northeast Ohio, genuine curiosity and her gift of connecting with people in the community will come to life in her stories for WKYC Studios. When Emily moved to Cleveland, she wanted to explore all that her new home had to offer. We look forward to sharing what she’s discovered!”
