CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is undergoing surgery on his injured left knee today at University Hospitals, according to multiple reports.
The surgery is expected to reveal the extent of the damage done to Chubb's knee after a low hit by Pittsburgh safety Minkah Fitzpatrick on September 18. Last week, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that initial tests revealed that Chubb only tore his left MCL .
Although the knee injury to Chubb is season-ending, sources told Schefter that it is not considered a career-ending one. Initial recovery timeline estimates for Chubb was expected to be six to eight months.
Today's surgery at UH is being performed on the same knee that Chubb had reconstructed in 2015 when he was hurt during his collegiate career at the University of Georgia.
While Chubb undergoes surgery, the Browns are moving ahead with preparations to host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Both teams come into the matchup at 2-1, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers atop the AFC North Division. In Chubb's absence, the Browns are using a combination of Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt, and Pierre Strong at running back.
