When the Cleveland Browns take the field for their matchup with the New York Jets on Monday night, they'll be without one of their top pass-catchers.
With just over an hour to go before Cleveland's Week 2 showdown on Monday Night Football, the Browns announced that wide receiver Rashard Higgins will be inactive for the game. Higgins had been dealing with a knee injury that limited him in practice throughout the week and was a game-time decision heading into Monday night.
Now in his fourth season in the NFL, Higgins had emerged has one of quarterback Baker Mayfield's top security blankets over the course of the past year. In 13 games last season, the Colorado State product caught 39 passes for 572 yards and 4 touchdowns.
After re-signing a one-year tender with the Browns this past offseason, Higgins entered the 2019 campaign as Cleveland's undisputed No. 3 receiver behind stars Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. He initially suffered his knee injury in the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Titans and exited the contest having recorded 2 receptions for 46 yards.
In addition to Higgins, safety Damarious Randall (concussion), running back Dontrell Hilliard (concussion), offensive lineman Kendall Lamm (knee) and linebacker Adarius Taylor (ankle) will also be inactive vs. the Jets due to injury. Linebacker Genard Avery and offensive lineman Austin Corbett are both healthy scratches for the contest.
With Higgins sidelined, wide receivers Damion Ratley and Taywan Taylor could both see an uptick in reps.
