CLEVELAND — In what was their first appearance on Sunday Night Football in 11 years, the Cleveland Browns lost to the Los Angeles Rams 20-13 to fall to 1-2 on the season.
For each game during the 2019 season, we'll be tracking the star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.'s performance -- both on and off the field -- in a weekly piece titled "OBJ Watch."
The numbers
After turning in arguably his best performance in three seasons six days prior, Beckham's showing vs. the Rams on Sunday was the least impressive of his young Browns career. The 3-time Pro Bowl receiver caught 6 passes for a season-low 56 yards, with a long of 19 yards on the night.
Beckham's involvement -- or lack thereof -- played a primary role in the criticism that Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens received following the game. In particular, quarterback Baker Mayfield failed to target Beckham on any of the team's four final plays, which came from the Rams' 5-yard line and ultimately resulted in a game-ending interception.
Through three games, the 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has now caught 19 passes for 288 yards and 1 touchdown.
Fashion watch
All things considered, it was a pretty low key night as far as Beckham's fashion was concerned.
After arriving at FirstEnergy Stadium wearing a purple and blue flannel jacket with purple sweatpants, Beckham took the field for pregame warmups wearing a space-themed colorway of his OBJ Uptempo 3 cleats, along with a matching Nike arm sleeve and gloves. Beckham's pregame cleats were inspired by the Nike Air Foamposite One NRG Galaxy, which was originally released in 2012.
Mayfield also donned the same $190,000 Richard Mille watch he wore in Week 1 vs. the Titans for pregame warmups -- although this time, he removed it before the start of the game.
Although he was originally scheduled to wear an all-brown colorway, Beckham wore an orange-and-gold pair of his signature Nike cleats come kickoff. And unlike last week, his clear visor kept him on the field for all of the Browns' key plays.
Key quote
Beckham's unique self-introduction to the Sunday Night Football telecast, in which players typically state their name and alma mater:
"OBJ. I am him."
What's next?
Despite their 1-2 record, the Browns can still leave Week 4 tied for first place. It won't come easy though, as they'll travel to Baltimore to take on the 2-1 Ravens in their first AFC North contest of the 2019 season.
One positive for Cleveland, however, could be that the Ravens have shown holes in their pass defense. That was apparent on Sunday, as Baltimore surrendered 363 passing yards to the Kansas City Chiefs, a week after allowing Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to throw for 349 yards.
