It's been two years since Baker Mayfield attempted to plant a flag in the field turf at Ohio Stadium.
And while he had to wait until both of them were in the pros, former Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa finally got his revenge.
In the first half of the matchup between Mayfield's Cleveland Browns and Bosa's San Francisco 49ers on Monday night, it was Bosa who stole the show, tallying two tackles for loss, one sack and four quarterback hits. And following his second quarter takedown of the former Heisman Trophy winner, Bosa made sure to commemorate the occasion, mimicking Mayfield's flag plant following Oklahoma's 31-16 victory over Ohio State in Columbus in 2017.
Although Mayfield initially said he was sorry for the celebration, he later not only admitted that he was pressured to do so, but took the apology back entirely.
“Zero. Absolutely not," Mayfield told GQ last summer when asked how sincere the apology was. “Which might hurt some Ohio fans’ feelings. But I think we’re all good now.”
But while Mayfield may be on good terms with the Buckeye State, where he now resides, the same might not be able to be said about ex-Buckeyes. Following Bosa's celebration, New Orleans Saints receiver Michael Thomas took to Twitter to applaud the defensive lineman, who the 49ers selected with the No. 2 pick in this year's NFL Draft.
