Kent State University graduate Corey Conners finishes tied for 9th in golf at 2024 Paris Olympics

Conners, 32, who graduated from Kent State in 2014 with a degree in actuarial mathematics, turned pro in 2015 after joining the PGA Canada Tour.

PARIS, France — Corey Conners, a golfer representing Team Canada in the 2024 Paris Olympics, has a connection to Northeast Ohio as he attended Kent State University where he competed collegiately from 2010 to 2014. Conners ended the four-round competition Sunday in a tie for ninth place, shooting -5 on the day and -12 overall.

His bio from Team Canada says he won the MAC Championship and placed fourth at the NCAA Championships as a sophomore with KSU in 2012.

"He was named MAC Golfer of the Year and an Honorable Mention on the All-American list," according to his bio. "As a junior he won the Gopher Invitational and was a Third-Team All-American. In his senior season he won the MAC Championship for the second time and won the Gopher Invitational to become the only back-to-back winner at the event. He won the 2014 Merle Wagoner Award as Kent State’s outstanding male athlete and finished his collegiate career as a two-time Academic All-American."

Conners, 32, who graduated from Kent State in 2014 with a degree in actuarial mathematics, turned pro in 2015 after joining the PGA Canada Tour, according to his bio.

"The golf format at the Olympic Games is stroke play, which consists of counting the number of strokes a golfer takes to complete an 18-hole course played four times over four days," according to Olympics.com. "The player with the lowest number of strokes at the end of the four rounds wins the tournament."

Thursday, Aug. 1

Friday, Aug. 2

  • Second round: Conners shot a 69 and now stands at -5, tied for 13th place. There is a three-way tie for the lead -- Xander Schauffele of the United States, Tommy Fleetwood of Great Britain, and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan -- are all holding the top spot at -11.

Saturday, Aug. 3

  • Third round: Conners shot another 69 to go to -7, good for 17th place. Spain's Jon Rahm (66) and USA's Xander Schauffele (68) ended the third round tied for the lead at 14-under.

Sunday, Aug. 4

  • Fourth round: Conners shot a 66 to go -5 on the day and finish the competition -12 overall. He ended his Olympics in a five-way tie for 9th place alongside Australian Jason Day, Chile's Joaquin Niemann, Belgian Thomas Detry and American Xander Schauffele.

Paris marks his second time competing in the Olympics after finishing 13th in Tokyo.

Conners' hometown is listed as Listowel, Ontario.
