On Tuesday, UFC president Dana White announced on ESPN's First Take that Stipe Miocic will defend the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Daniel Cormier at UFC 252 on August 15.
It didn't take long for social media to react to the long-awaited announcement that Miocic and Cormier will be completing their trilogy of heavyweight title fights, including a post from ESPN's Brett Okamoto, who proclaimed the fight the "biggest title fight in history of division."
"Biggest title fight in history of division [in my opinion]. Lifetime bragging rights," Okamoto said. "Winner is the best heavyweight of his era. Loser is not. Doesn’t get bigger than that."
Cormier was also quick to weigh in on Twitter, where he expressed his own excitement for the historic rematch.
"This one is for all the marbles," Cormier said. "1-1, both knockouts but great fights, I can’t wait to fight this dude again!! Now it’s time to work as hard as I ever trained."
Meanwhile, when it came to the reaction from fans from the fight game, there were some who speculated about the 41-year-old Cormier's impending retirement, as well as the potential for eye pokes in the contest and just general excitement.
