ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A 38-year-old man from Atlanta, Georgia, has died after he was struck by a vehicle while authorities say he crossed into I-71 on foot near mile post 183 in Ashland County.

Authorities say the situation started around 10 p.m. Thursday when a 2014 Kia Sorento was “actively being reported as a reckless operator” while northbound on I-71.

“The vehicle crashed into the center median guardrail as troopers were being dispatched,” authorities said in a press release early Friday morning. “Troopers responded to the scene and the driver of the crashed vehicle crossed into the southbound lanes on foot and was struck by a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Trax just before troopers arrived.”

Authorities say the man, identified as Tyrrell Dushaun Louden, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, who authorities say is not considered at fault, was not hurt and remained at the scene.

I-71 was closed for approximately three hours. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Ohio Department of Transportation, Ashland Fire / EMS and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation. We will update this story if any additional details are released.
