STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A Jackson Township police officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday amid a four-vehicle crash that left several people hurt.
The crash happened at 5:19 p.m. on Fulton Road at Foxchase Avenue, according to the Canton Post of the Ohio State highway Patrol.
CRASH DETAILS
Authorities say the police cruiser was stopped due to traffic on Fulton. Behind the cruiser was a 2016 Fiat 500X and a 2018 Hyundai Elantra -- both of which were also stopped.
That’s when a 2011 Ford Edge, driven by a 38-year-old man, allegedly failed to stop in an assured clear distance and struck the Hyundai, which forced it into the Fiat.
“The collision caused the Fiat and Hyundai to strike the police cruiser and the Fiat to override onto the roof of the Hyundai,” according to a press release from the Highway Patrol.
INJURIES FROM THE CRASH
The crash resulted in the following injuries:
- 30-year-old police officer: Taken to the hospital with minor injuries
- Juvenile driver and juvenile passenger in the Hyundai: Treated at the scene with minor injuries
- 36-year-old Fiat driver: Treated at the scene with minor injuries
- Ford driver: Minor injuries. Cited for distracted driving, failure to wear a seat belt and assured clear distance ahead.
Fulton Road was closed for approximately 90 minutes as crews worked at the scene of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
