CLEVELAND — If you've often thought to yourself that the worst drivers in the country reside here in Northeast Ohio, you're not alone. Many of us have been cut off on I-90, camped behind a slow driver in the left lane on I-271, or watched as I-480 turns into the Daytona 500.
But the worst in the nation? Well, not quite but it's close.
The folks at QuoteWizard have published their annual report showing which cities have the worst drivers in America. This year, Cleveland ranked as the 7th worst driving city in the country.
QuoteWizard analyzed data from millions of insurance quotes from drivers in the top 75 cities in the country. They evaluated cities on four factors to determine overall driver quality and took a composite ranking of overall incidents, which include accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs and citations. Cities considered the worst drivers had the highest rate of incidents among drivers.
Here are the top 10 worst driving cities in America:
- Portland, OR
- Boise, ID
- Virginia Beach, VA
- Columbus, OH
- Sacramento, CA
- Salt Lake City, UT
- Cleveland, OH
- Denver, CO
- San Francisco, CA
- Richmond, VA
This is what QuoteWizard wrote about Columbus being the No. 4 worst driving city in the nation: "A perennial top 10 finisher on the worst driving list, Columbus keeps it’s reign on the fourth worst spot for the second year in a row. Year over year, Columbus isn’t spectacularly bad in any one category, just consistently poor in all categories. Top 15 worst in accidents, speeding tickets and DUIs will drag the overall ranking down. Columbus will take the crown as the worst driving big city in the state of OH, but not far behind is Cleveland at No. 7."
Dayton cracked the top 20 in the list of the worst driving cities in America, checking in at No. 17.
