CLEVELAND — The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is reminding drivers to stay alert on the roadways after one of its plows was struck for the first time in 2024 in an incident that happened in Northeast Ohio.
According to ODOT, the incident happened on I-90 near West 117th Street at around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Surveillance video shows a plow truck was pulled over in an area off of the roadway near the entrance ramp when it was struck by what appeared to be an SUV.
The vehicle hit the plow in the blade, then spun off the highway and crashed into a yield sign.
ODOT says the plow had only been pulled over for a minute before it was struck.
According to ODOT, 26 of its plow trucks were struck throughout the state in 2023.
"Our statement is simple: Move over any time you see flashing lights on the road no matter the color. We want to remind all motorists to put down distractions while driving and focus on the road," ODOT officials wrote to 3News in a statement.
