NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) is looking towards an optimistic future after it recently received a large grant from the state of Ohio
The airport was given $3.2 million as part of Ohio's one-time Strategic Community Investment Fund that was signed into law by Gov. Mike DeWine on July 1.
So how will CAK utilize the grant?
"The funds will allow us to construct new ramp space on the west side general aviation area, which creates space for tenants to develop new hangars and for potential tenants to base at our airport," explained Lisa Dalpiaz, Akron-Canton Airport's vice president of air service & business development. "Currently, all ramp and hangar space is leased out, so we are unable to accommodate growth without this additional space."
Dalpiaz says airport officials hope to "use this opportunity to build the case for additional ramp space as we build out the 80 acres on the west side of the airfield."
Akron-Canton Airport currently services four airlines: Allegiant, American, Breeze, and United.
In May, Breeze Airways confirmed to 3News that it is considering CAK as a site for a crew base amid launching nonstop service from Akron-Canton Airport to Los Angeles.
