CLEVELAND — Budget-conscious travelers in Northeast Ohio will have more options to get to the Sunshine State with two new flights from U.S.-based airline Allegiant set to take off next year.
Allegiant announced an expansion Wednesday with 44 new nonstop routes nationwide, including direct flights from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) to two Florida destinations: Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) and Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS).
Both routes start with one-way fares as low as $59, the airline said. Flights to Jacksonville are set to begin May 23, 2025, with the Destin-Fort Walton Beach routes taking off the next day.
The announcement from Allegiant comes the same day low-cost competitors Breeze began non-stop flights from Akron-Canton to Sarasota-Bradenton (SRQ) in Florida.
Allegiant's nationwide expansion is also set to include a new route to Portland, Ore. via Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG).
"By connecting more cities, we’re making it easier for travelers to visit family and friends, access top leisure destinations, and create new memories," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer. "Our research shows that customers increasingly want affordability and convenience when they fly. Our low-cost fares and nonstop flights make Allegiant a top choice for leisure travelers."
Allegiant is running a special deal to mark the new flights. For the rest of Wednesday, travelers can snag one-way fares on the new routes starting at $39. Flights must be purchased by Nov. the end of the day Wednesday for travel by July 25, 2025.
