The delays and cancellations come as a high-impact winter storm began to hit Northeast Ohio early Friday with dropping temps, gusty winds and snow.
As Cleveland Hopkins Airport officials prepared for severe weather in Northeast Ohio before Christmas weekend, they reminded travelers that safety is their top priority when making decisions.
“Right now, the safety of the airport is our number one priority," said Cleveland Hopkins International Airport spokesman John Goersmeyer. "Our main focus is to make sure the runways stay as clear as possible when we get heavy snow. When the snow begins to fall, our snow and ice plan will fall into effect."
During a press conference on Wednesday, Goersmeyer also asked travelers to come prepared by doing the following:
- Arriving two hours ahead of your flight to find checkpoints and places to park
- Paying attention to the website and looking for the status of flights and parking availability
- Being in contact with your airline ahead of your flight
